Downtown Safety Patrol
Downtown Dallas, Inc. launched the Downtown Safety Patrol in 2004 to provide a visible presence on the streets of the Central Business District in Downtown Dallas. The Downtown Safety Patrol focuses on quality of life, public safety and crime prevention while providing information to Downtown workers, visitors and residents.
Using two-way radios and patrolling on foot and bicycles, members of the Downtown Safety Patrol act as an extra set of "eyes and ears" for law enforcement and property owners.
Primary duties of the Downtown Safety Patrol include:
- Deterring panhandling and other nuisance crimes
- Working with service providers to provide social service outreach
- Assisting with directions and information
- Maintaining open communications with Dallas Police Department to report ongoing issues
- Adding a presence in downtown to prevent vandalism and other undesirable behavior
- Assisting in emergency situations (CPR, First Aid, traffic accidents, etc.)
The Downtown Safety Patrol includes approximately 50 officers who have undergone extensive, 3-week workshops with the Dallas Police Department, DART, Convention & Visitors Bureau, the City of Dallas Crisis Intervention, and federal officials.
The Downtown Safety Patrol offices are located in the Downtown Dallas, Inc. Operations Center at 211 S. Akard Street, Suite 130, directly across Commerce Street from the Adolphus Hotel. Thanks to AT&T for donating the space for the Downtown Dallas, Inc. Operations Center.
